I apologize if this is out of place.

Most of my websites are offline due to massive inactivity.

I'm working on some new web projects, and I realize that I'm a piss-poor webmaster who wants to reform.

I have seen the glory that is css/div/non-table based design. I'm just not very good at it.

I can make simple xhtml/css valid web pages. My last site (projectfanout.com) used decent design, was valid, etc. I ditched the frames, ditched tables and entered the 21st century.

But I want to put together some forums. I've tried most forum packages out there, and I keep coming back to phpbb. Is it the best? Not really, but there are enough preexisting hacks to get the functionality I really want out of it.

Especially when it comes to forums, you're talking content first. phpbb3 is finally xhtml valid, and I'm still not entirely sure if I'm going to build upon phpbb2 or 3 (3 is a better starting point because it is standards compliant, but I'd have to code in manually most of the features I want, where as 2 is a standards/design nightmare, but most of the hacks I want already exist).

Why turn here? I'm more than happy to accept blunt critique and try to improve myself as a webmaster. I don't really have anything to show you today. I want to find people who are die-hard about web-standards and usability so that I might enlist their aid in developing a phpbb2/3 theme/style with usability and standards in mind.

Is it shitty to ask for help? Some think so, but even as I'm trying to broaden my skill set, I made aware that right now some of this is just beyond my grasp, and I would like help so I have little choice but to beg it of others.

Why should you give a damn? If you help, you have one more site for your portfolio, and you rest easy knowing that you helped usher in some semblance of usability and standards-based design into the nightmarish world that is forum templating.

Frankly, the world needs a template/theme/style for phpbb that isn't a complete affront to web design. Someone needs to design it.

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Worst. Navigation. EVER. [12 Mar 2006|05:35pm]

I dare you to try to find anything on this site. Even playing guess-and-click doesn't work because everything is as inscrutiable as the navigation.

SEND HELP.

I am totally catty. [14 Jul 2005|12:02am]

I like to talk about people on the internet.

You know, I actually find more shitawful livejournal layouts on Fandom Wank than just about anywhere else. I mean, take this one. I... see, it sort of almost has potential, except for the part where 1. I have the wallpaper that header image was jacked from, and 2. THE NAV JESUS GOD THE NAV. It's a livejournal. Who uses rollovers on a livejournal? Rollovers that aren't labelled until you roll over them? DIDN'T THOSE GO OUT OF STYLE IN LIKE 2002? (Well, I guess at least they're CSS instead of javascript... boy is that damning with faint praise...)

Well, that and the part where the background color on the header image doesn't match the page background. And the fact that the journal entries are jammed into a tiny space in the middle of the screen at my res. And the fact that the colors hurt my eyes.

...okay, the only nice part is the header and footer sections of entries. I like how the topics and comment numbering look. Other than that it loses.

Here is the part where I am catty: I find it desparately hard to take seriously someone whose journal includes the text "i cannot survive with three icons. honestly. i am losing my mind," in, apparently, total seriousness.

Hello, my name is Ed and I am a HORRIBLE PERSON woohoo!
